Brief CV:

Prof. John Raftoyiannis holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Civil Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in Athens, Greece. He also holds an M.S. in Civil Engineering and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis in stability, composite materials and computational mechanics from West Virginia University (WVU). After WVU, Prof. Raftoyiannis joined as a Post-Doctoral Fellow the Civil and Geological Engineering Department at the University of Manitoba in Canada. Currently, he is tenured Associate Professor in the Faculty of Civil Engineering - NTUA – teaching Steel Structures, Steel and Composite Bridges, Thin-walled Structures, Elastic Stability, Advanced Structural Dynamics and Composite Materials. Prof. Raftoyiannis gained broad-based research and field experience through participation in many civil and mechanical engineering projects conducted in the United States, Canada and Greece. His professional career involves the analysis and design of steel structures, steel and concrete bridges and fiber-reinforced polymers systems (FRP). In his academic career, Prof. Raftoyiannis is participating in research projects on steel structures, composite materials, buckling, dynamics of structures and chaos and finite element analysis. His credits include more than 60 scientific publications in refereed journals and more than 200 citations. He has presented research work in numerous national and international seminars and conferences.
