Brief CV:

Mr. Dimitrios Bilionis graduated from the 2nd Public High School of Argos in 2004. He started his undergraduate studies in the School of Civil Engineering of the NTUA in Fall 2004. He graduated from the NTUA in 2011. His diploma thesis was entitled «Correlations of Road Accident and Meteorological Conditions Time-Series» under the supervision of Dr. G. Yannis and Dr. M. Karaftis, Associate Professors of the NTUA. He attended graduate studies at Iowa State University (USA) starting in Fall 2011. He graduated from the Iowa State University in Spring 2013 with a Master’s of Science Degree with major in Civil Engineering and minor in Statistics. His master thesis was entitled «Interaction Effects of Prevailing Weather Conditions and Crash Characteristics on Crash Severity: A case study on two corridors in Iowa» under the supervision of Dr. K. Gkritza and Dr. O. Smadi. During his graduate studies, he worked as a Graduate Research Assistant for the Institute for Transportation of the Iowa State University. His major research interests focus on the application of statistical and probability methods in Civil Engineering applications. During his studies (undergraduate and graduate), he has received honors/awards such as: the «Thomaidis Award 2009» from the NTUA and the «Spring 2013 Graduate Research Excellence Award» from the Iowa State University. He was also a recipient of the Gerondelis Foundation Graduate Student Scholarship ($5000) in 2012, as a graduate from a Greek university who pursues graduate studies in the USA. He has been a PhD student at the NTUA since Spring 2014. His PhD dissertation is entitled «Assessment of the Reliability of Steel Bearers in Offshore Wind Turbines» and is being conducted under the supervision of Dr. I. Vagias, Professor of the NTUA.

Research:

He is a member of the research project «SEAWIND – Performance Based Engineering of Offshore Wind Turbines» which is co-financed by the European Union (European Social Fund - ESF) and Hellenic national funds through the Operational Program «Competitiveness and Entrepreneurship» of the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF 2007-2013) - Research Funding Program: Bilateral R&D Cooperation between Greece and China 2012-2014.
